Our Japanese Kiryuzuna (Kiryu) is a clean earthy material that provides excellent drainage with its gritty texture. It can be used to amend the soil and can be used as visual clues to the dryness of a pot. However, akadama particles break down and become smaller, their ability to hold water increases. Kiryu does not break down and does not need to be compacted.
